Have you ever been unexpectedly completely soaked? I remember a trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain, when it began to rain unexpectedly. It wasn't a downpour, but it was just enough to get a little wet. I was thinking, "Hey, if were going to get wet, why not just go all the way?" The vision was complete saturation. The strategy was The Log Ride. We slowly climbed to the top of the ride, and then plunged into the water with a great splash. We were drenched. After the ride, as we were walking across the bridge, another Log Ride timed it perfectly and provided us another "splash down" and the plan was complete. We were completely soaked. We were wet to the bone. Not one thread of our clothes was dry. Full saturation. And you know what? We did it again. And again.
Reflect Church exists to flood the city with reflected Light. In other words, we want to saturate the city with the gospel. In Acts 19:8-10, we find the ministry of the Apostle Paul starting in Ephesus and spilling over until "all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord." That is gospel saturation.
Reflect Church wants to completely soak the city with Christ-revealing moments and Christ-reflecting lives. Colossians 1:27 is a cornerstone verse at Reflect Church. It says that at the heart of the mystery of God or God's unfolding plan in the world—the Story of Redemption—is "Christ in you, the hope of glory." This is the amazing hallmark of the New Covenant. This glory of the mystery of God is inaugurated in Acts 2:1-4 with the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. In John 7:37-39, Jesus speaking of the mystery of the Spirit, says, "Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." In other words, when the Holy Spirit comes, Christ in you will flow like rivers of living water.
In Isaiah 44:3, Isaiah saw this mystery and prophesied, "For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants." How will the thirsty land and dry ground be satiated? Christ in you, the hope of glory—the hope of rivers of living water flowing out of your heart.
Christ in you is the solution to the dry ground and thirsty land in our city. Christ in you is the hope of flooding our city with reflected Light. Christ in you is the hope of flooding our city with rivers of living water. The vision is gospel saturation. The strategy is Christ in you.
The gospel isn't about getting a little wet. It is about immersion. We are baptized into the Name of Jesus Christ. The gospel is meant to completely soak our lives, so that it spills over and drenches the thirsty land and dry ground around us.
The vision is to flood the city with reflected Light.
The strategy is Worship Gatherings, Missional Communities, and Catalyst Relationships.
Don't be content with a little splash of Christianity. Complete gospel saturation will only suffice.
